The pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement have highlighted profound inequities in education. The majority of the city’s public school students are children of color. Many are poor. Education is their way out. They need their teachers in top form, but their teachers are currently under extreme stress and underprepared for the challenges of remote teaching.
At the same time, the city has slashed professional development funds.
The Private Schools for Public Education Initiative is an effort to support public school teachers by providing them the same access to The Academy’s extraordinary programs as elite private schools.
The Academy is one of the few organizations that brings private, public, and charter school teachers together. The teachers we identify are the best of the best, wherever they teach. This initiative allows us to continue to offer exceptional programs to support our great city’s wonderful teachers.
