Improv Foundations

Learn the basics of “Yes, And”—and then some—in this improv workshop geared towards students of all levels. Through bond-building games, exercises, and scene work, students will focus on foundational elements of improv, such as agreement, listening, gift-giving, and character work. These lessons will help foster confidence in your creativity and truth in your play.

Monique Moses is a Canadian-born writer, director, and actor based in Brooklyn, New York. A longtime performer and teacher at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, she has directed sketch and improv at venues all over New York City, including the PIT, The Magnet Theater, and with the children’s media and literacy company, The Story Pirates. She has written and starred in content for IFC’s Comedy Crib and Comedy Central, and most recently wrote for Big Mouth’s spin-off series, Human Resources (Netflix), and Peacock’s The Kids Tonight Show.  As a member of the all-black comedy team Astronomy Club, she co-created Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show, which premiered on Netflix in 2019 to stellar reviews from Variety, Vulture, and Rotten Tomatoes. Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show was named one of 2019’s best sketch comedy shows by Paste magazine.
